Iron County, MI – An Iron County man is hospitalized, following a shooting in Bates Township. Troopers from the Iron River Post say the incident occurred Tuesday at a residence on Vinnedge Road. Upon arrival, officials found Joseph Stanton, 29, shot in the lower torso. Investigation reveals Stanton had placed a loaded 9mm handgun on the kitchen counter behind him. One of his cats then jumped on the counter and knocked the gun to the floor. The gun discharged, hitting stanton. He was taken to Iron County Community Hospital, then transferred to Marquette General Hospital, where his condition is unknown at this time.
