Hermansville man builds guitars--not just for stars

HERMANSVILLE, MI--   A Menominee County man who's combined his passion for woodworking and playing guitar has musicians lined up for one of his custom-built guitars.

Jeff Neville established Neville Guitars in 2007.  Since then, he and his wife Danielle have transformed logs to sought-after, lacquer-finished guitars in Hermansville.  Neville says “everything branched out from there.”  Some guitars have been built from wood cut on their property.

The Nevilles have sold more than 500 guitar bodies worldwide. Musicians seeking a Neville guitar include Brad Paisley, Gary Hooker, who plays in Brad Paisley's band, and Dave Haywood of Lady Antebellum.

Jeff Neville says anyone seeking one of his $1,500 to $2,200 guitars will have to wait eight to ten weeks, but can order one online.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
