MARQUETTE, MI (AP)--   A new documentary puts a focus on the beauty and spirituality at an Upper Peninsula monastery.

"Gladsome Light" is a film by Negaunee Township native Dustin Katona and Denver native Jeffrey Geniesse. They now live in Askeaton, Wisconsin, and make up the Marquette Cinema Coalition, which created the film.

The documentary details life of Byzantine Catholic monks living at the Holy Transfiguration Skete near Eagle Harbor in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

The monks are known to travelers as operators of the Jampot. The seasonal bakery produces confections, and jams and jellies made from local berries.

The film premiered Saturday at Thomas Theatres in Marquette Township and monks from the monastery attended.

Katona says it took two years to make the film.
