Humanities agency announces grants for projects in Michigan

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   The National Endowment for the Humanities has announced $895,000 in grants for projects in Michigan.  

The agency announced Wednesday $21.1 million in grants for 248 humanities projects, including eight grants in Michigan. They include funds for projects at the University of Michigan, Michigan Technological University and the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Grants going toward projects at the University of Michigan total $560,000. The projects include work to digitize archival materials documenting African popular music, and development of a prototype of a database for medical records documenting involuntary sterilization in California.
