2017 word banishment list approaching

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--    It’s time to clear annoying words and phrases from your linguistic closet.

Just days remain to submit a nomination for Lake Superior State University’s 2017 Word Banishment List, to be released on December 31st

Every new year since 1976 LSSU has published a List of Words Banished from the Queen’s English for Mis-Use, Over-Use, or General Uselessness.  Nominations are collected throughout the year from people around the world who would like to see words and phrases permanently exiled.

Previous lists included My Bad, Live Audience, and Free Gift.  Last year’s had Manspreading and Vape.

To submit your own nomination for the Banishment List, go to lssu.edu/banished/submit_word.php, or search under “word banish submission.”

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
