The Arts Center at LSSU Presents: The Landscape of Guitar

LSSU Arts Center

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Landscape of Guitar takes the stage on October 24th at 7:00 p.m. “A unique performance that is a stunning blend of beautiful singing and acoustic guitar playing brought to life with astonishing, animated visual art.” Arts Center Director, Thomas Meacham, remarked. “This concert is definitely something that one needs to see in person -- breathtaking!”

The Landscape of Guitar combines the talents of painter and guitarist, Bruce Hecksel, and singer-songwriter Julie Patchouli. What makes this concert particularly special is the incorporation of Hecksel’s glittering, stain-glass like paintings into the performance, which are inspired by the shape and form of guitars. Hecksel has digitally animated the original acrylic paintings to provide a cutting-edge 3D concert experience that City Pages describes, “Like taking a yoga class in a field of running mustangs.”

In a review by The Chicago Tribune, their performance is summed up as “guitars of the Gypsy Kings, the harmony of Simon & Garfunkel and the colors of Van Gogh” and a show that truly “inspires the human spirit.”  Hecksel’s paintings are featured in exhibitions around the US, entitled “Terra Guitarra Art,” and will also be on display in the Arts Center Gallery through October 24th.

Hecksel and Patchouli were awarded the “2017 Best Instrumental Duo Album of the Year.”  They have produced 21 albums and have performed in over 4,500 shows in Europe and Asia. This is definitely a duo you don’t want to miss.

This concert was made possible with the generous support from the Duncan MacLaren Family Fund for the Performing Arts.

The Landscape of Guitar will be on the Arts Center Stage at 7:00 p.m. on October 24th. Free parking is available in Lot K, in front of the Arts Center, and Lot E, behind the Cisler Center. The Arts Center is wheelchair accessible.  For directions, tickets, and more information please visit lssu.edu/arts-center or call (906) 635-2787.
