Michigan Christmas tree chosen from Marenisco property

MARENISCO, MI— This year’s official state Christmas tree will come from Gogebic County.

The 63-foot spruce will be harvested in Marenisco on property belonging to Carla Fletcher and her family.

The tree will be cut October 27th and transported to the Capitol with help from the Michigan Association of Timbermen and the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association. The journey culminates with a tree lighting ceremony Friday, November 19th, at the 35th Annual Silver Bells in the City celebration.

It’s the second state tree to hail from Gogebic County, and the 24th to come from the Upper Peninsula.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
