(MARQUETTE, MI) - The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center has announced the recipients of the 2021 Upper Peninsula Folklife Awards.
The two recipients are the traditional wood carver Russell Dees of Marquette and the Native American Students Association of Northern Michigan University.
The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center created the Upper Peninsula Folklife Awards in 2009 to honor individuals and organizations that have made a difference in preserving and promoting the folk culture of the region. Since 2009, 17 individuals and two organizations have received the award.
The awards will be presented Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Whitman Hall Commons on campus.
