November is American Diabetes Month, and World Diabetes Day is November 14, 2020. The Lions Clubs of Michigan are raising awareness of the complications associated with diabetes, screening, prevention and education with the Defense Against Diabetes initiative.
Gary Perala is Project Chairperson for District 10 Lions' Defense Against Diabetes, and he spoke with Public Radio 90's Kurt Hauswirth about the project, how important it is to check for diabetes and pre-diabetes, and how people can get involved:
National Diabetes Awareness Month and World Diabetes Day are included in an awareness campaign called Blood Sugar Rising, in coordination with WNMU-TV, and is highlighted on What's Up, with guest Ann Constance from UP Diabetes Outreach Network (UPDON), discussing how Type 2 Diabetes is affecting the Upper Peninsula along with prevention and maintenance resources (visit this link to view the episode ofWhat's Up on WNMU-TV). The awareness campaign also includes Media Meet and Ask the Doctor.
