Ishpeming authorities looking to reinvigorate area

ISHPEMING, MI--   Ishpeming officials loaded onto a bus Tuesday and toured 14 different sites in the city under consideration for possible redevelopment.

City Manager Mark Slown says officials hope the restoration and repurposing projects will help revitalize the city.  Possible project sites include the old Bell Hospital, Brogies Tavern, and the Brownstone area.

After the tour the City Council met with the Planning Commission and Downtown Development Authority to start prioritizing the list of projects.  They’re considering the construction of condominiums, building a skate park, and creating more parking space, among other projects.

Slown says it will likely take several meetings to come up with a final list.
