Meijer opens in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   The new Meijer store in Marquette Township is holding its grand opening Thursday.

The store on US-41 West will be open 24 hours a day, 364 days a year. It features a pharmacy, deli, bakery, and its own gas station.

The building can be accessed either by the eastern drive next to Lowes or via Brickyard Road. Officials are recommending drivers use the light at Brickyard Road, as traffic is expected to be heavier than normal.

This is the third Meijer to open in the Upper Peninsula. The first two stores opened in Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie in May of 2017. They were among seven new stores Meijer opened in the Midwest.

Based in Walker, Michigan—a suburb of Grand Rapids—Meijer has more than 230 locations in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Kentucky.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
