Hotel group buys Beacon House

MARQUETTE, MI--   The old Beacon House building has been sold.

WLUC-TV says the Third Street structure was purchased by a group of Chicago hoteliers, who are already working on the property.

The Beacon House functions as a “home away from home” for people traveling to Marquette for medical care. A new Steve Mariucci Family Beacon House will be constructed next to the new UPHS-Marquette hospital, once another $900,000 is raised.

Beacon House CEO Mary Dowling says officials hope to wrap up the Capital Campaign and break ground on the new building this spring. She hopes it will open next year.

In the meantime, Beacon House Hospitality Rooms are still assisting families at the hospital.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
