ISHPEMING, MI-- Cleveland Cliffs is idling the Tilden Mine for a couple of months.
Officials say it’s due to the slowing economy and temporary shutdown of the auto industry to shift to the production of ventilators.
CCI Chairman Lourenco Goncalves says the Tilden will shut down by the end of this month. A restart is planned for July.
State Representative Sara Cambensy says the idling wasn’t unexpected. She says now, “State legislators must start immediate discussions with all mining, steel and auto manufacturing stakeholders to coordinate how we can best help and safely get them back in operation in order to put people back to work.”
Northshore Mining in Minnesota will also be temporarily idled.
