Marquette Farmers Market to proceed... in a different form

MARQUETTE, MI--    The Downtown Marquette Farmer’s Market is a go for the 2020 season, but in a different way.

The season will begin with an online market only. The possibility of a physical market will be assessed later in the summer.

Market Manager Sara Johnson says a physical market would allow only about a third of vendors to participate. The number of customers would have to be limited, and there are restrictions on what types of vendors are allowed.

A survey indicates only 30 percent of vendors are currently selling online, but 80 percent said they’d like to do so.

The market will partner with Taste the Local Difference and Local Food Marketplace to launch its online presence. Officials plan to get it up and running in mid-May.
