Tilden to open in June rather than July

ISHPEMING, MI--   Cleveland Cliffs, Incorporated says the Tilden mine will reopen earlier than planned.

The mine was idled in mid-April because of decreased demand for steel during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Tilden primarily supplies CCI’s AK Steel facilities in Dearborn and Middletown, Ohio.

A restart was previously expected in July. CCCI now plans to get the Tilden up and running later this month.

Officials say the earlier restart is in response to a faster improvement in steel demand from AK Steel’s clients than anticipated, particularly in the automotive sector.
