HOUGHTON, MI— Houghton County Memorial Airport is in discussions with SkyWest Airlines for air service to the Keweenaw.
Airport Manager Dennis Hext says the bidding period for potential service providers is open.
SkyWest had tried to pull out of its current commitment because of widespread staff shortages, but Hext says discussions with the airline are progressing and he thinks SkyWest will submit a bid to serve the area.
The federal government subsidizes passenger flights at the Houghton Airport through the Essential Air Service program.
