UPPCO withdraws multiple outage waiver request

MARQUETTE, MI— Upper Peninsula Power Company has withdrawn its request to make multiple outages during catastrophic conditions count as one outage.

UPPCO sought a permanent waiver from the Michigan Public Service Commission. The waiver would have resulted in fewer repetitive outage credits being issued under amended Service Quality Rules implemented last year.

But Attorney General Dana Nessel intervened. She said the request was unreasonable and unnecessary.

Nessel has asked MPSC staff to determine if UPPCO has issued billing credits in a timely fashion since April 10. If not, Nessel urged UPPCO to provide supplemental credits for each month of delayed issuance.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
