MARQUETTE, MI— Power was shut off at Marquette’s Westwood Mall again Wednesday because the utility bill wasn’t paid by the due date.
Businesses were closed for six days in March when property owner Michael Kohan failed to pay the Marquette Board of Light and Power bill on time.
The lights are on at Dunham’s, North Iron Church, and Kohl’s, but it’s dark in the rest of the mall until Kohan’s business—Kohan Retail Investment Group—submits payment for the current bill.
Kohan also continues to owe Marquette Township more than $265,000 in taxes. The mall faces foreclosure if those taxes aren’t paid by March 31 of 2025.
