Match on Main grants awarded to UP businesses

LANSING, MI— Four Upper Peninsula businesses have been awarded grants from the Michigan Strategic Fund.

The money comes through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Match on Main program. It provides up to $25,000 to small businesses that seek to grow in core downtown areas and commercial districts.

Fiscal year 2024 Match on Main awardees in the Upper Peninsula include the Negaunee Downtown Development Authority for Slapshot Sandwiches; the Sault Ste. Marie DDA for UP North Nutrition and Gym 906; the Marquette DDA for Café Bodega; and the Lake Superior Community Partnership for Doozers in Ishpeming.

Each business received $25,000.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
