Airport manager hired in Delta County

ESCANABA, MI— The Delta County Board of Commissioners has hired a new airport manager.

County Administrator Ashleigh Young will resign her position to take over the post. She’s been managing the airport since January, when former manager Robert Ranstadler left.

At a meeting Thursday, the Board negotiated a salary and benefits package for Young. She’ll initially make $80,000. That will increase to $85,000 in October, pending an FAA Part 139 certification.

Ranstadler’s salary was $60,000 a year. He reportedly quit over low wages.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
