Marquette's Barrel + Beam calling it quits after 9 years

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette brewery is permanently closing its doors.

In a Facebook post Thursday, Barrel + Beam announced it’s ceasing operations after nine years.

The owners said like many small businesses, they’ve faced challenges from rising costs, inflation, tariffs, and an increasingly difficult economic environment. They said while those factors played a role, the decision ultimately came down to family. After much reflection, they realized the sacrifices required to continue were no longer sustainable.

They thank their employees and the public for supporting local, believing in their vision, and helping make the business something special.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
