DEARBORN, MI— Gas prices in Michigan are up 1 cent from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.17 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 11 cents less than this time last month but still 84 cents more than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $62 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an iincrease of about $11 from 2025's highest price last August.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.68 million barrels per day to 9.04 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 209.4 million barrels to 206.8 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.8 million barrels per day.
At the close of Friday’s formal trading session, WTI fell 13 cents to settle at $83.40 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 0.1 million barrels from the previous week. At 428.9 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are 1% above the five-year average for this time of year.
As Americans prepare to closeout summer with Labor Day getaways, this year’s holiday road trip will cost more at the pump. On Labor Day 2025, Michigan’s average price of gasoline was $3.30 per gallon.
"Michigan gas prices have remained relatively stable ahead of Labor Day weekend, increasing by just one penny from a week ago," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "While this stability is welcome, Michigan drivers will still pay more at the pump this holiday than they did last year. Travelers should budget accordingly and make sure their vehicles are road-trip ready before hitting the road."
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $4.17 per gallon, about 4 cents less than last week’s average but still 86 cents more than this same time last year.
