Bardo to be sentenced Tuesday for torturing son

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba woman who pleaded guilty to abusing her 15-year-old son is scheduled for sentencing Tuesday.

Susan Bardo, 46, faces up to life in prison at the hearing in Delta County Circuit Court.

Police say for four years the boy rarely left a room made from tarps while being tortured and abused.  He was rescued from the home in April.

Bardo pleaded guilty in June to first-degree child abuse and torture.  Her boyfriend—Carl Pellinen, 47—pleaded guilty to first-degree child abuse and no contest to aiding and abetting first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He's scheduled for sentencing August 19.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
