Delta County woman headed to prison for torturing son

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba woman who pleaded guilty to torturing and sexually abusing her 15-year-old son has been sentenced in Delta County Circuit Court.  

Susan Bardo, 46, was given 20 to 50 years in prison Tuesday for keeping the boy in an 8’-by-10’ room lined with tarps for the past four years. 

She pleaded guilty to first-degree child abuse and torture and could have received up to life in prison. 

Bardo’s boyfriend and codefendant, Carl Pellinen, 47, has pleaded no contest to first-degree criminal sexual conduct and guilty to first-degree child abuse.  His sentencing is set for Monday. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
