Gartland sentenced for lying about armed robbery

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba woman has been sentenced for her role in an armed robbery of the Admiral gas station in January.  

Courtney Gartland, 21, pleaded guilty in June to lying to a peace officer investigating a crime.  She was sentenced Tuesday to one-and-a-half years’ probation for lying on behalf of her codefendant, 20-year-old Marc Grove.

Gartland also pleaded guilty to separate charges of possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a drug house.  She was given four months in jail with credit for 13 days already served. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
