WLUC-TV

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba man who pleaded to torturing his girlfriend’s 15-year-old son over a four-year period has been sentenced.

Carl Pellinen, 47, pleaded no contest to aiding and abetting first-degree criminal sexual conduct and guilty to first-degree child abuse.  He was sentenced to 17.5 to 50 years on the CSC charge and 25 to 50 years on the abuse charge.  The sentences will run concurrently.

Officials say the boy was kept in a room made of tarps for 22 hours a day.

Susan Bardo, the teen’s mother, was recently sentenced to 25 to 50 years each for torture and first-degree child abuse.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
