WI medical examiner sentenced for stealing parts

RHINELANDER, WI (AP)--   A judge has sentenced a former northern Wisconsin medical examiner accused of taking body parts from autopsies to a year in jail.

Forty-seven-year-old Traci England was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty last month in Oneida County to two counts of misconduct in public office.

England was ordered to begin serving her sentence Friday. WSAW-TV reports she'll also spend three years on extended supervision upon her release.

England was medical examiner for Oneida and Forest counties. Under a plea deal, charges of theft and obstructing an officer were dismissed.

England told investigators in Oneida County she kept a piece of cadaver spine during a 2012 autopsy in order to train her dog. She's also accused of keeping tissue from a body in another autopsy the same day in Forest County.
