WLUC-TV

MARQUETTE, MI--   An Ishpeming man has been sentenced for shooting an area family’s dog.

William Huot, 62, pleaded guilty last month to careless discharge of a firearm in the death of eight-year-old Weimaraner Corby, who was walking with owners Cori and Dave Mantela on Cliffs Drive January 12.  Huot said he thought the dog was a coyote.

Huot was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation and more than $2,400 in fines.  He was ordered to take hunter safety classes, but will not lose his hunting privileges.

Huot apologized to the Mantelas in court.
