Arbelius bound over for CSC

ISHPEMING, MI--   A former Republic police officer has been bound over to circuit court on sexual assault charges.

William Arbelius, 62, of Negaunee had a preliminary exam this week on three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Arbelius was allegedly involved in an incident this year in Ishpeming Township with a 29-year-old mentally disabled woman.  It reportedly occurred on a Marq-Tran bus he was driving at the time.

Arbelius remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $30,000 cash bond.

He faces up to 45 years in prison, if convicted as charged.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
