Not guilty verdict for Arbelius

MARQUETTE, MI--   A jury has found a former Republic police officer not guilty of three counts of criminal sexual conduct. 

William Arbelius, 62, of Negaunee was on trial this week.  He was accused of inappropriately touching a mentally disabled woman on a Marq-Tran bus he was driving earlier this year. 

Each criminal sexual conduct charge was punishable by up to 15 years in prison.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
