Fish wants to represent himself at trial

abc10up.com

BARAGA, MI--   A Shawano, Wisconsin man on trial for armed robbery in Baraga County last year has asked the judge to be his own attorney.

After a jury was selected for 47-year-old Bernard Fish Monday, the judge denied a motion to suppress some testimony from fish’s codefendant, Donovan Waupoose.  Fish then announced he was dismissing his attorney and representing himself.  The judge said he’d take it under advisement.

Fish is charged with impersonating an officer and two counts each of armed robbery, extortion, and unlawful imprisonment.

Waupoose pleaded last week to possession of a controlled substance and delivery and manufacture of marijuana in exchange for all other counts being dropped.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
