Nassiri to spend up to 40 years in prison

HOUGHTON, MI--   A Dollar Bay man convicted of second-degree murder in the death of his Iranian wife has been sentenced.

Nima Nassiri, 35, will spend between 20 and 40 years behind bars for the beating death of Sanaz Nezami, 27, in December of last year.  A jury found Nassiri guilty of murder in September.

The donation of Nezami’s organs saved the lives of seven people.  She’s buried in Park Cemetery in Marquette.

Nassiri is originally from Los Angeles.  He and Nezami moved to the Keweenaw so she could attend Michigan Technological University.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
