ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba woman accused of embezzling from a resident at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette has been sentenced.

Frances Kreft, 37, allegedly took more than $100,000 in VA benefits, pension, and Social Security from a senior with dementia.  She pleaded guilty last month to embezzlement between $20,000 and $50,000 from a vulnerable adult.

Kreft was sentenced to nine months in the Delta County Jail and ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution.  The judge ordered her to find and maintain employment so the money could be paid back.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
