Norway resident to be sentenced for police standoff

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   A police standoff with a Norway man ended peacefully Sunday night.

Officers say they had responded to a domestic argument on Iron Street around 9:30 p.m. when the man involved pulled out a gun.  Police set up a perimeter around the house when the subject, identified as Robert Anderson, 51, threatened to shoot himself.

Officers talked to Anderson, who was taken into custody around midnight.

Anderson pleaded guilty Monday to possession of a weapon/firearm under the influence.  He’ll be sentenced July 21.

The Community Emergency Response Team, Michigan State Police, and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
