Suspects in fatal Mellen Township break-in sentenced

MENOMINEE, MI--   Two suspects charged in a fatal Menominee County home invasion case have been sentenced.  

Thomas Hartman, 21, and Matthew Franjose, 20, pleaded guilty to second-degree home invasion.  They were arrested after they broke into a Mellen Township residence.  The homeowner shot and killed a third suspect, Hayden Gagnon, 19, of Pulaski, Wisconsin.

Hartman and Franjose were sentenced to a year in jail and two years of probation. 

The homeowner was not charged in the incident.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
