Prelim set for Marquette assault suspects

MARQUETTE, MI--   Arraignment was held Wednesday for two Marquette residents accused of assault in a city parking lot.  

Kowayne Burns, 38, and Ebonie Burns, 26, were taken into custody followed the alleged incident on West Washington Street Monday night.  City Police say a pool cue and makeshift bat were used against the victims.

Kowayne Burns is charged with felonious assault, punishable by up to four years in prison.  Ebonie Burns is charged with felonious assault and a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.

Kowayne remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $100,000 bond, while Ebonie is lodged on a $75,000 bond. 

A preliminary exam is set for April 4.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
