Nassiri's conviction to stand

HOUGHTON, MI--   The Michigan Supreme Court has refused to review a Houghton County’ man’s murder conviction.

Nima Nassiri, 36, of Dollar Bay was found guilty of second-degree murder in September of 2014.  He was accused of beating his wife, Sanaz Nezami, 27, to death.

Nassiri was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison.

The Michigan Court of Appeals upheld the court’s decision this past April, and the state Supreme Court announced on Wednesday it would not revisit the case.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
