Downstate woman sentenced on assault charge

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Muskegon woman has been sentenced on an assault charge in Marquette County District Court. 

Holly Bates, 31, was arrested after police investigated an assault complaint at Perkins Park in August and discovered a meth lab in a pop-up camper. 

Bates was originally charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and retail fraud.  She pleaded guilty to assault and battery.

Bates was sentenced Thursday to 93 days in jail with credit for time already served.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
