Ruska pleads to federal charges

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Rumely man accused of kidnapping a woman and sexually assaulting her over a five-day period this summer has entered a plea in federal court.

Eric Ruska, 37, is accused of asking a coworker to go fishing with him on Chicago Lake in early July. Police reports indicate he assaulted her physically and sexually, then drove around the Hiawatha National Forest in Delta, Marquette, and Alger counties over the next several days. The victim was reportedly raped numerous times.

Ruska was finally located and arrested at a Munising gas station July 14.

Ruska pleaded guilty Tuesday in Marquette Federal Court to one count of kidnapping and three counts of aggravated sexual abuse. He’s already spent time in prison for kidnapping, making the current charges punishable by up to life in prison.

Sentencing is set for February 7.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
