Cochran pleads to second murder

CROWN POINT, INDIANA--   A former Iron River woman serving a life sentence for murder in Iron County has pleaded guilty to another murder in Indiana.

WLUC-TV says Kelly Cochran, 35, admitted to smothering her husband Jason Cochran at their Hobart, Indiana home in 2016.

She was sentenced last May to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the death of Christopher Regan of Iron River in 2014.

Officials in Indiana say they won’t seek the death penalty in exchange for her plea, which could net her another 65 years in prison. Her Indiana sentence will be served consecutively to her Michigan conviction.

Sentencing is set for May 16.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
