Madden found guilty of killing fellow inmate

MUNISING, MI--   An Alger Correctional Facility inmate has been found guilty of killing another inmate last July.

A five-day trial was held last week for DeShawn Madden, charged with first-degree homicide in the death of Rodriguez Burks, 23. After the jury deliberated for nearly two hours it came back with a verdict of second-degree murder.

Burks’ body was found wrapped up in a blanket in his cell. Authorities say he died of blunt force trauma to the head.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
