Former UP priest accused of criminal sexual conduct enters plea deal

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   A former U.P. priest pleaded guilty to the final charge against him in Dickinson County last week.

Gary Jacobs, 75, pleaded to 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct Friday afternoon. He had also pleaded guilty to three counts of 1st degree CSC and one count of 2nd degree CSC in Ontonagon County last month.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office says a plea agreement spans both counties. Under the deal Jacobs will serve between 8 and 15 years on each of the five total counts, which will run concurrently; he will register as a sex offender for the rest of his life; all victims in the cases may speak at sentencing if they wish; Jacobs will undergo sex offender counseling; and he must undergo lifetime electronic monitoring when he’s released.

Sentencing is set for May 25 in Ontonagon and July 2 in Dickinson County.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
