Marquette County man found guilty of sex, weapons charges

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette man has been convicted of criminal sexual conduct and other charges, following a two-day jury trial.

The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office says Jason Leist, 42, was found guilty of two counts of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct, discharge of a weapon in or at a building, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of felony firearms.

Leist faces up to life in prison. Sentencing will be scheduled in 25th Circuit Court in about six weeks.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
