Houghton County man accused of killing mother headed to prison

HOUGHTON, MI— A Hancock man who pleaded in the death of his mother has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison.

Isaiah Strieter, 19, was arrested last January in Stanton Township. He was charged with homicide-open murder and felony firearms in the shooting death of Ashlee Harvey, 38.

Strieter pleaded guilty to manslaughter and the other charges were dropped.

On Thursday the court recommended Strieter undergo mental health treatment. It also recommended he be allowed to get his high school diploma.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
