Man accused of hitting, killing pedestrian with truck arraigned

MARQUETTE, MI— The suspect in a fatal truck-pedestrian accident in Ishpeming last year has been arraigned.

The hit-and-run happened November 23rd on County Road. Gregory Retaskie, Jr., 31, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Steven Laitinen, 55, was arraigned in 96th District Court Tuesday on a charge of failure to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for January 25th and a preliminary exam for January 30th.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
