Driver in fatal 2020 crash in Marquette County sentenced

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette woman charged in a fatal crash by Marquette Mountain in October of 2020 has been sentenced.

Brianna Jacobson, 23, was the driver of a southbound vehicle that hit a northbound vehicle on M-553. Andrew Auston, 25, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Two other people were injured.

Jacobson pleaded no contest to operating while intoxicated, causing death. Charges of 2nd-degree child abuse and two counts of operating while intoxicated, causing serious injury were dropped.

Jacobson was sentenced this week to three to 15 years in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
