Lawsuit: Remove blockades in Wisconsin tribal land dispute

MADISON, WI (AP)— Northern Wisconsin landowners are asking a federal judge to order the removal of barricades set up by a Native American tribe in a dispute over roads on tribal land.

According to a lawsuit filed Tuesday, home and business owners have only been able to leave their residences for medical appointments since the Lac Du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians put up four roadblocks on January 31st.

Tribal leaders say they have tried for years to negotiate new agreements but that they are unwilling to agree to the permanent leases they say the title companies representing property owners are asking for.
