Former MSP employee to serve up to 50 years in prison for CSC

MARQUETTE, MI— The former supervisor of the Negaunee Regional Communications Center has been sentenced on various criminal sexual conduct charges.

Brian McEachern, 54, of Marquette was arrested in March of 2021 in connection with his off-duty activities. He was found guilty by a jury on May 11th of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct, 3rd-degree CSC, and 4th-degree CSC.

McEachern was sentenced June 23rd by Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi to 25-50 years in prison for CSC-1st, 6-15 years for CSC-3rd, and 49 days in the Marquette County Jail for CSC-4th.

All three sentences will run concurrently and he will not be eligible for parole until May 11, 2048. McEachern will also be required to register as a sex offender on Michigan’s public registry with lifetime electronic monitoring.

Marquette County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Jenna Nelson, who prosecuted the defendant, stated, “The defendant abused his position of authority and status in the community to take advantage of vulnerable individuals, including a child. The defendant gained the trust of his victims and their families and then exploited that trust by preying on the victims at their weakest moments. The trauma that has been inflicted on the victims and their families by the defendant is immeasurable and we hope that the conviction and sentence can start the healing process. We would not have been able to achieve this result without the victims coming forward and trusting us to see that the defendant was held accountable.”

McEachern had been employed by the Michigan State Police since 1992.

The case was investigated by Sgt. Chris Bracket of the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
