Gault acquitted of murder

MANISTIQUE, MI— A Manistique man has been found not guilty in the shooting death of a Cooks resident.

A jury reached the verdict against Trevor Gault, 36, Tuesday afternoon.

He was charged with shooting Douglas Orr, 55, of Cooks on June 17th, 2020. Orr died of his injuries 11 days later. Gault was then charged with homicide-open murder and felony firearms.

The jury deliberated for 16 hours.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
