Orzechowicz sentenced to prison in fatal Chassell crash

HOUGHTON, MI— A Covington man who pleaded “no contest” to two counts of operating while intoxicated, causing death in a Chassell crash has been sentenced to prison.

Ryan Orzechowicz, 35, was arrested last November following a crash at the intersection of US-41 and Chassell Painesdale Road. Two passengers—Jennifer Rajala of Covington and Lacey Rajala of Chassell—were killed.

Orzechowicz was sentenced Thursday to 86 months to 15 years in prison with credit for 100 days already served.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
